Well that was fun! The first leg of the tour is officially complete :) It was a blast getting to showcase my new material in my hometown to many of my family and friends. It was also exciting to play with a full band for the first time! The shots above were taken by a friend and fellow cowriter Rosanne Baker Thornley at my album launch show at the Haviland Club in PEI. After kicking things off at the Haviland Club we then had a private house concert in Stanhope PEI at a beautiful home just minutes from the ocean. Going from a full band to a duo of just my brother Ben and I was a lot different but I always love playing house concerts as it's very intimate and the audience is always receptive.
The following morning we packed our rented Chevy Spark (basically a glorified clown car) and made our way to Halifax for a CTV interview and live performance. I'd have to say that this was the highlight of our tour. We walked into the studio and the set was all ready to go with blue, purple and pink lights beaming down on us and three camera men readying their lenses for showtime. We played two tunes and then had a short interview. Ben and I were surprisingly not all that nervous and I think it was due to that fact that we woke up at 430am to hit the road and probably thought we were just in a lucid dream :) After the interview we spent the day touring around Halifax and then crashed at Dana Beeler's place who is a Halifax singer songwriter and friend of ours. In the morning we then made our way to Fredericton for an interview and live performance with Erin Bond of CHSR 97.9. After the interview we then made our way to Clarks Corner which is about 40 minutes outside of Fredericton for our show with Dana at The Hollywood Star Room. This was an interesting venue. It's basically in the middle of nowhere but when you walk through the front door it's as if you are transported to a club in Vegas. The floors sparkle as if stars themselves were trapped within the granite, there are signed electric guitars and photos of rock stars hanging on the walls and underneath the glow of neon lights there are bright coloured leather chairs and sofas garnished with leopard print blankets. Amongst the glam and glitter were 12 people plus a dog named Mars Bar. One might expect the show to be a flop due to the low attendance but those who did attend were attentive which always makes things better :) In the morning Ben and I jumped in our little rig and made our way back to Halifax for our show at Rogues Roost with Brandon Miller Davis. Unlike the attentive receptive crowds that we had played for at our previous shows, this audience was on the other end of the spectrum. We were basically back ground music to help fuel their conversations. However, we got to play outside on a deck on a beautiful East Coast night so I can't complain. After the show we crashed at Dana's and flew out of Halifax the next morning. Just in time to take in the Calgary Folk Festival :)
I'm looking forward to the album release show in Calgary on August 14th at The Ironwood and hope that the tour to follow will be just as memorable as the first :)
Thanks for your support and for taking the time to read about my touring experience.
Till next time,
